It’s really no secret — I’m obsessed with Outdoor Voices. It all started when I worked at Aritzia and would look at them for competitor analyses and inspiration for our marketing and social media content. I started following Ty Haney a few years ago and can safely report she’s one badass lady changing the activewear industry, one #DoingThings event and campaign at a time.
Last fall, Outdoor Voices came to Vancouver for the first time and I attended the two events held at Turf and Tight Club. The second evening, Turf hosted Ty who spoke about her vision for getting people more active and having fun #DoingThings. Her outlook on wellness was so refreshing — I was basically drooling like a fool the whole time.
Being the introvert that I am, I had a hard time working up the courage to talk to her, but I knew I’d regret it if I didn’t (ugh). Luckily my friends who I brought along did the work for me. They told her how I turned them onto OV and how obsessed I was with the brand. She immediately told me that I should be a Vancouver OV Ambassador. I was like, okay, you know I only have like 5 followers? But it was a non-issue. That was when I realized the difference between OV and other retail brands.
First, they don’t just look at the numbers, they want ambassadors who actually believe in and love the brand, which is (hate to say this) authenticity at it’s finest. Second, they go out of there way to connect with customers and people in real life, not just through social media. Making connections and encouraging people to get up and get moving is a a big piece of the brand, which builds a stronger relationship than any digital campaign ever could.
Growing up, sports played a huge role in my life. I was never not playing something, whether it was volleyball in University, figure skating at a 7am practice in the ice cold rink, or playing a soccer game on the weekends. I love being active and know it’s something that keeps me feeling balanced. As I got older, I started working in fashion and became very passionate about it, so it always felt like a challenge to find workout gear that wasn’t hard-core sporty. I, more often than not, didn’t feel like myself wearing athletic clothes. With their cute colour combos and two-piece sets, OV bridges the gap between fashun and activewear pretty seamlessly. I think that’s yet another reason why I’m so drawn to the brand.
In terms of styles, I’d 100% recommend the Tech Sweat Kits for sweaty activities like running, spin or strength training. If you’re looking for dog-walking or wear-to-brunch styles, my favourite leggings are the Springs that I’ll throw a sweatershirt over. If you use my discount, you can get $20 off your first order.
While OV currently doesn’t ship to Canada, I like to order my packages to Point2Point in Point Roberts. You just need to register online, and It’s relatively cheap (about $4 per package) and hassle-free going through the Point Roberts border crossing. When they do start shipping to Canada (hopefully in the next few months), I’ll be the first one to let you know.
In these photos I’m wearing the polka dot set, which is extremely cute. We were visiting my parents in Palm Springs and they took us up Eisenhower Mountain for a hike. The views at the top were amazing!
