Week 3 of quarantine is upon us and I’m feeling very grateful for this time to slow down and get back to a few personal goals I’ve let slip to the side. I’ve been catching up on my reading, organizing our home, photographing our home, re-vamping my website and spending more time writing and sharing content. While I feel so lucky to have this time at home to do all these things, there are a lot of people who’s businesses are in a period of uncertainty because of the drastic impact that COVID-19 has had on our economy. As such, I really wanted to highlight a few local businesses I love and want to support as best I can. Below is a list of local places to shop for yourself and loved ones, eat a nice meal in, stock up on beauty supplies and so much more.
Style/Beauty
Hills carries a ton of my favourite brands — think Ganni, Shaina Mote, Nanushka and Re/Done. I’ve been eyeing these boots (on sale!) forever, as well as this sweater and this denim jacket for summer. These items are definitely on the splurge side, but I’d consider them investment pieces you’d have in your wardrobe for a long time. [Note: Hills Dry Goods has decided to pause their online store until further notice.]
One of my good friends works here (you can often see her frequenting their instagram stories!), and I love it for their selection of laid-back dresses, sweaters and denim selection. Particularly, I love this dress for summer (styled with sneakers), and this pair of jeans would be perfect with a beige tee and slides.
Fig Face is the ultimate spot to get a facial and they have the most swoon-worthy boutique. During quarantine, they’re offering pre-ecomm shopping, so you can email them your product picks and they’ll deliver it right to your door. They stock all the best clean beauty brands like Vintner’s Daughter, Tata Harper and Dr. Loretta. Another idea? Buy a gift card now so you can book a facial when this is all over! I highly recommend the Hydrate + Glow facial.
Another local favourite, I love their selection of lived-in tops and bottoms and hand-made ceramics and home goods. This sweatshirt is perfect for working from home, while looking somewhat put-together. They also have the best selection of linens and it’s always nice to have some palo santo to burn around the home.
Home
Nineteen Ten is one of my favourite spots to stock up on storage items and cute little household items like these wire baskets I recently used to organize our pantry and these hand towels. This serving board would be the perfect gift to give someone with a little charcuterie and cheeses.
This shop is filled with everything I’d put in my house if I had an unlimited budget. These pillows are my all-time favourite, and these door mats are so good and textural. I’ll also never get tired of these Missoni towels. Right now they have free delivery with the code freeshipcanada.
In my opinion, Celsia creates the most beautiful floral arrangements in Vancouver. Treat yourself and freshen up your home or surprise a friend who might be in need of some positive vibes. They have a few specials on like $35 posy bouquets and $15 off orders of $75 or more.
Another favourite of mine, Old Faithful Shop carries the best in minimalist home goods and a variety of Scandinavian brands. Freshen up your home with a new print from my favourite art brand or step up your dinner game with this cookbook.
Eats
If you’re celebrating a special event (it’s Phil’s birthday tonight), L’Ufficio serves some of the best Italian in the city and it’s our go-to favourite date night spot. Choose from their daily menu of pasta, charcuterie and mains and don’t forget to order a bottle of wine to mark the occasion — they’re offering 20% off right now.
If you know me, you know how much I love Turf! It’s my go-to workout spot, a place to work on my laptop, have brunch on the weekends and even enjoy a drink on their patio in the summertime. Right now, they’ve closed their studio, but they’re offering $15 classes you can stream from home and they set up a grocery delivery program. My favourite items to stock up on are pickled greens, everyday cookies, beet hummus, kale, yams and almond butter, plus they still offer all their ready-to-eat meals like my personal favourite Morning Greens and the Cheese Burger.
Another Italian place and a neighbourhood favourite, this is a more casual spot we love to eat at. When you just feel like a little pizza, I’d recommend the Mushroom Pancetta and Ricotta Za, and always always order the Tiramisu for after. I promise you’ll love it. Right now they have their Kits and Olympic villages open for take out.
Livia is one of my favourite spots for brunch and they now offer online ordering for pick-up the next day. For ready-made pasta pick up one of their meal kits or order a fresh loaf of sourdough bread to go with all your morning meals you now have the time to cook.
