Hello fall… aka the best time of year. Even though I’m pretty far gone from the days of back to school (being in school part time as a 28-year-old is not the same), fall always marks the start of a new year for me when the weather feels crisp, the leaves start falling and we return to our cozy sweaters and morning coffee rituals. After lazing around all summer, it feels like the perfect time to get back to business. And, in my personal opinion, it’s the BEST time of year for fashion.
Phil and I had an amazing summer — we snuck off to Hawaii with friends, visited Tofino for the first time (I’m obsessed), and I even had my first-ever proper camping experience (why have I never been camping? don’t ask). While I’ve been fortunate enough to have a little time off between my summer and fall classes, I’m so ready to get back to the grind. I’m not sure if it’s my personality or just the way society has shaped me, but I find it pretty hard to chill out and be okay with doing nothing. I definitely feel more at ease when I’m busy with work, my social life and have more of a routine.
To kick off September, I thought I’d share a few of my favourite things for fall:
Fashion — I’ve always been a fan of minimalist fashion. The notion of classic with a twist not only applies to my fashion aesthetic, but my design style as well. For fall, I’m really feeling simple pieces that make a strong statement. An architectural-inspired blouse is the perfect way to do so. Just pair one of these (these, or these) with your favourite jeans and loafers and you’re good to go for a dinner out or easy work look (and don’t forget to add your favourite gold jewelry).
Travel — This dream space inspired by an artist’s retreat was designed by one of my favourite hotel designers, Dorothée Meilichzon. The concept is mediterrenean farmhouse with a slew of villas and rooms overlooking a beautiful pool. Not only does it make me want to book a fall getaway to Spain, but I’m obsessed with the design, specifically the Allied Maker sconces!
Design — Phil and I sold our place this summer and are looking for a slightly bigger space to move into this fall. While we haven’t found our dream place yet, I’m already thinking of what I want to do with my first home! I’m obsessed with a scandi-euro vibe with lots of natural materials and love all of the furniture from ASPLUND, particularly this Palais Royal dining table. I’m also hoping to incorporate a few eclectic pieces into our space like this accent chair, but we’ll see how that goes convincing Phil.
Fashion — This sweater from Mansur Gavriel is to die for, and I’m loving the idea of layering a pop of colour under a beautiful camel coat. I’m also digging the sleeves on this one from Ref, and this one from Aritzia is great if you’re on a lower budget.
Quote — This quote reminded me of a book I read while on vacation and made me stop for a moment. It made me take a second to appreciate all the hard-working women around me who are hustling to follow their career goals and dreams. Women-lead brands like DÔEN, Reformation, Outdoor Voices, AWAY, Vitruvi and more, are all paving the way for future female business leaders and it’s awesome to watch.
Beauty — Normally I’m drawn to darker shades when it comes to nail colour, but this fall I don’t think I’m ready to say goodbye to brighter colours. I’ve had so much fun playing with my nails over the summer (muted orange and purple is my favourite combo!), that I think I’ll continue trying out new colours for fall. Similar to what I said above, there’s something really nice about a pop of colour paired with neutrals.
Design — Last, but not least, I’m still not over cane/rattan furniture and realllllly want to find a few pieces to put into our new space. I’ve been following Huski Studios for a while and have my eye on this console. It feels timeless enough that it won’t be out of style in a couple years.
