May is one of my favourite times of year to freshen up my wardrobe with a few new pieces. Year round, I usually stick to the basics, but it’s nice once or twice a year to purchase a few key investment items to update your wardrobe. Overall, I’ve been trying harder to buy less and only collect good quality pieces I know will go with everything in my wardrobe and last a long time.
This month, I have my eye on the Ganni seersucker dress because it’s super versatile and comfortable. You can where it in the daytime with a pair of sneakers or out for dinner with a nicer pair of sandals. I really love the aspect of balancing out the feminine side of a dress with a good pair of sneakers and my go-to brand of sneakers is always Veja. They’re a little more polished than your average sneaker making them good for work, dinner dates and basically every day. I just convinced two of my girlfriends to purchase a pair and they love them already — I really can’t recommend them enough!
In addition to building my dress collection, I’m short on lightweight jackets and outerwear, so I’ve already purchased this grey & Other Stories cardigan to throw over my classic jeans and t-shirt uniform. It has the perfect silhouette with a cropped fit and a little volume in the sleeves that makes it a little more chic than your average cardigan. I also want to find a good denim jacket with a similar fit and I’ve been eyeing the AGOLDE Charlie Jacket. I used to have the classic Levi’s Trucker, but found it felt too masculine and I never felt right wearing it.
I’ve also been slowly building my jewellery collection. I’m super selective when it comes to jewellery and usually only wear one or two simple pieces in gold. I never take my Amarillo Marina Chain off that Phil gave me last year and would love to keep collecting more pieces from that brand. All their jewellery is tarnish resistant, so if you’re like me and workout and shower in your jewellery, this brand is for you. I’m also getting more into the layering look, so I just purchased a flat python necklace from Electric Picks and love the idea of a chunkier chain necklace layered over a simple t-shirt, like this one from Young Frankk. Another staple of mine is a gold hoop, which I am dying for a pair of Sophie Buhai’s! Even though they are on the pricier side, all of her deigns are super timeless and amazing quality, so you’ll keep them forever.
Another thing I can never stay away from in the spring/summer is a a beautiful eyelet blouse, like this one from Aritzia. I’ll be pairing it with a longer vintage-looking pair of denim shorts, like these ones from AGOLDE and dressing up the look with a simple square-toed flat sandal. Another brand I’ve been really into lately is The Great, who makes this beautiful floral blouse, as well as this midi dress in the same pattern.
For accessories, I like to invest in one or two quality pairs of sunglasses, and always look to more classic shapes in neutral colours so they go with all your outfits. These black Saint Laurent ones are a pretty timeless shape that will go with all your outfits, which is always important to me. I also usually only carry one or two bags throughout the season and have my eye on this laid-back one from Dragon Diffusion.
You can shop all the pieces I mentioned, below. I also put together a spring shop with all my favourite picks of the season.
