Ever since I came across Kristin Ellen Martin’s beautiful Charleston garden on instagram, I’ve been obsessed with the English garden look and slowly collecting inspo for our own backyard. From Monty Don to Martha Stewart, I’m swooning over lush overgrown landscaping with ivy covered walls and soft white florals and sage green tones around the yard.
As for backyard furniture, I was immediately drawn to the CB2 black iron sofa and chairs shown above, and knew I wanted to a neutral throw pillow with a stripe. I’ve also always loved the look of the iron bistro set from Fermob as it takes me back to my last trip to Paris around this time of year where I spent a lot of time in the parks. To soften the harder surfaces of iron, I like to mix in textures and neutrals with a rattan ottoman and a neutral jute rug.
Because I’m naturally more into a minimalist look, I found these modern silhouette terracotta planters which would be really cute with a micro white floral or overgrown sage. Also quick tip: make sure you play with scale and stagger different heights for a more visually appealing look. For outdoor entertaining, I always love the look of classic picardie glasses and striped linen napkins. These rattan tumblers and pitcher set are also really fun for the summer. And because these are my ultimate dream plates — I wanted to share these scalloped edge Kaneko Kohyo Rinka plates. *Sigh*
Once our patio furniture is delivered in two weeks, I’ll be sure to share!
When I started the landscaping in our backyard, I knew right away I liked the look of a full garden with a mix of soft white florals throughout. I filled an entire wall of planters with bleeding hearts, which are so beautiful and elegant and fairly easy to care for. I also planted a few Lily of Vallies (another beautiful floral to cut for the house), alyssum for filler throughout, and japonicas which will eventually grow 4’-6’ high. Other star players include a climbing hydrangea along a tall lattice in the corner of our yard and a white clematis to eventually add fullness and grow all over our garage wall, which we waned to hide somewhat.
I’ve really enjoyed the process of learning how to garden (my mom is an expert teacher!) and it’s been so fun to watch everything blossom over the last month. We did keep a few of the bulbs already in the garden from the previous owners which I let blossom just to see how they turned out, but have decided to replace a few more in the next couple weeks. I’m always looking for new plants and seeds we can plant, and get a lot of inspo from instagram and on daily dog walks around the neighbourhood. If anyone has more plant baby recommendations, I’d love to hear.
If you have questions or would like more styling help for your outdoor space, I love a good DM sesh on instagram! I’m also working on another themed outdoor styling spot called “Vacationing in Tuscany,” because who doesn’t love a little Italian vacation inspo? Stay tuned 🙂
