We are officially back from our honeymoon and all I can say is I’m using November to catch up on work and getting back into a good routine. The forecast in Vancouver seems to be all rain for the foreseeable future, so I’m going to hone in on my hibernation skills with cozy sweater sets, a good pair of sherpa slippers and all the books I can read.
A few notable mentions are “Do Nothing” by Celeste Headlee and Sally Rooney’s “Beautiful World, Where Are You?” (of course). I read the Do Nothing book while on vacation and it had a ton of good points about figuring out a work-life schedule that works for you. It also reminded me to stop thinking about work when I’m having leisure time because it will still be there when you’re done.
One thing I’ve enjoyed doing since forever, is writing down my focus for the month. For November, I’m focusing on my health and establishing a good work-life balance. Before we went away it was so busy with starting my business, working on new projects and prepping for our wedding and honeymoon (not to mention attending 6 other weddings!). While the summer was crazy and fun at the same time, I’m ready to get back to my new normal.
One of my goals is to get back on track in terms of health so I’ve been scheduling time with a naturopath to get back to feeling good after eating all the pasta and drinking allll the wine in Italy. So far, I’ve been making recipes from Gwyneth Paltrow’s Clean Plate cookbook (a favourite) and eating as clean as possible, but I’m also looking forward to trying out a few healthy baking recipes. I felt like I missed out on all the pumpkin/fall baking while we were in Europe so I’ll be testing out this pumpkin zucchini loaf recipe with my new Emile Henry ruffled loaf pan (obsessed).
For undoing the effects of stress from the summer, I’ve been taking Moon Juice’s Super You supplement — I’ve been taking it on and off for a few years and notice a difference in terms of feeling more even keel in times of high stress. I’m also getting back into my usual workouts. I love a mix of reformer pilates at Lagree, cardio and strength classes at Turf and then just old fashioned running outside (especially when the leaves are falling).
While this month might be for rest and recovery, I am very much looking forward to the holidays. Stay tuned for more holiday inspired content coming soon!
