While it feels like Thanksgiving and fall festivities were just yesterday, the holiday season is quickly approaching and I think I’m ready for a little re-do after last year’s sad season of quarantine. Since we moved into our home two years ago, we’ve been slowly collecting a few pieces each year to round out our decor collection. I find there’s a lottttt of stuff out there each year and it can be overwhelming, so I advise to keep it simple. Invest in a good faux tree (unless you get the real deal!), a pretty wreath for your front door and some garland. Also don’t forget to find a good quality tree base… we opted for a rattan basket last year from McGee and Co., but I have my eye on the hand-carved Skagerak tree stand because it’s really just so beautiful and simple. I also think a linen skirt is also a beautiful option if you’re going for a softer look.
This year we’re adding stockings and stocking holders to our list, as well as a new tree topper. We’ve always done stockings at our parents house, but this year will be the beginning of a new tradition! I’m also eyeing up a faux garland for our mantle because last year I attempted to make my own eucalyptus one which ended up being a bit of a pain to make. Going with a faux option you can throw up above your fireplace or on your stairwell each year is way easier and will last for years to come!
For little touches, I like adding in a couple special ornaments each year. I keep my eye out for ones I really love rather than buying up a bunch at once. We picked one up at Harrod’s while we were in London and it will always serve as a fun reminder of our trip. I also love styling with lots of candles this time of year. Dimming the lights, making a good holiday cocktail and lighting the candles while your tree is glistening in the background is such a lovely feeling.
